An Anthem to FREEDOM aka
FREEDOM'S WAY
They
were rebels with just cause,
ol' Tom, Ben and George,
all those who can boast
they laid down our laws.
Real visionaries who defined what a patriot would be.
They saw hope for future generations
in this high correlation between
our development and our liberty.
They felt the human spirit was meant to be free,
were sure that would unleash our creativity.
They knew when you feel the Holy Ghost,
you feel joy
since wisdom, truth and love
flow from up above.
They believed in Bible prophecy.
With divine inspiration
they made the Declaration!
That same spirit moved them to write the Constitution!
Dismayed but
undaunted by reality
compared to the dream
once more our heroes were inspired
and felt prompted
to create a we the people power pack!
Ten Amendments
called, The Bill of Rights, make guarantees
of individual freedom stronger
and clearly limit state and federal power!
The people are grand and government is small plan!
They
were brave and they wanted to be free!
They founded the US in the pursuit of happiness,
It was revolutionary, a giant step away from tyranny.
They put us on the path to righteousness,
self-government, freedom's way
NO NANNY STATE to make us cower.
We, the people had the power.
We, the people -
America's heart and soul.
Naturally, we were blessed
with astounding success
with our soul in control.
But if
they were here today,
our first ever, clever watchdogs of liberty
might look around in dismay
and ask, "Have we lost our way?!"
. . .because
We've been tearing the truths to pieces.
You know, those self-evident ones.
There is little or no justice
where corruption and racism thrive.
We're over taxed and regulated
until we can barely survive.
We're on the road to perdition,
with more and more people in prison.
How can we be the land of liberty?
Now's the time to right
the things done wrong.
Being back on the path to righteousness
will make us strong.
America claims to be free,
. . .let it be!
It's not to late
to set things straight
In the good ol' US of A,
we'll NEVER say,
"We've lost freedom's way."
They
were rebels with just cause,
those cowgirls and cowboys
They were plucky
and they knew how to be free.
In the pursuit of happiness
they tamed the wild, wild west.
They'll always be our heroes, our watchdogs of liberty.
Right now, if we were lucky
and they could ride across this country
they would scratch their heads
and give us some of their usual sass
like, "Whoa, the land of the free, my ass!"
. . .because
We've been tearing the truths to pieces.
You know, those self-evident ones.
There is little or no justice
where corruption and racism thrive.
We're over taxed and regulated
until we can barely survive.
We're on the road to perdition,
with more and more people in prison.
How can we be the land of liberty?
Now's the time to right
the things done wrong.
Being back on the path to righteousness
will make us strong.
America claims to be free,
. . .let it be!
It's not to late
to set things straight
In the good ol' US of A,
we'll NEVER say,
"We've lost freedom's way."
They
were rebels with just cause in ol' San Antone
Bowie, Crockett and the rest who claimed this land their own.
They were courageous and they wanted Texas to be free.
They join our growing cast
of those who took a stand.
They join 'ol Patrick Henry's band,
sad to say, they won't be the last
patriots who died for liberty.
I guess you know, if they could come and sit a spell,
we'd most likely hear them yell,
"Remember the Alamo, hell!"
. . .because
We've been tearing the truths to pieces.
You know, those self-evident ones.
There is little or no justice
where corruption and racism thrive.
We're over taxed and regulated
until we can barely survive.
We're on the road to perdition,
with more and more people in prison.
How can we be the land of liberty?
Now's the time to right
the things done wrong.
Being back on the path to righteousness
will make us strong.
America claims to be free,
. . .let it be!
It's not to late
to set things straight
In the good ol' US of A,
we'll NEVER say,
"We've lost freedom's way."
They were rebels
with just cause during alcohol prohibition,
which brought daily exposés of police and political corruption!
When in Speakeasies the twenties began to roar,
bootlegging provided the Mafia with its biggest score.
We left this drug's sale and distribution to gangsters, like Al Capone,
creating illegal empires beyond belief!
Or to users brewing beer or bathtub gin at home,
causing more danger to drinkers and overwhelming societal grief.
Prohibition triggered homicides; seven deaths on St. Valentines alone,
while violent crimes after repeal were cut back to the bone!
People
called it, "the noble experiment," but what did we learn?
Official lawlessness
and violence becomes a concern,
as these lessons of history continue to be ignored,
drug prohibition's more sinister aspects must be explored.
Now in American Justice's
darkest hour,
drug laws replace the segregation laws for racist in power.
Wealthy white folks do the crime,
but mostly darker skinned folks do the time.
Once again,
prohibition gives children easier access to drugs,
and thugs!
If those old reformers could be here to cheer us, they'd shout,
"Save the Children from Prohibition."
As they did back then,
when alcohol brought the fight about.
We are rebels
with just cause,
when we exercise our right to nullify bad laws
like those brave jurors who refused to convict
during the hard times of the Fugitive Slave Act, way back
and until FDR said the Volstead Act was licked!
Jury nullification, a constitutional power tool we the people pack.
. . .because
They've been tearing the truths to pieces.
You know, those self-evident ones.
There is little or no justice
where corruption and racism thrive.
We're over taxed and regulated
until we can barely survive.
We're on the road to perdition,
with more and more people in prison.
How can we be the land of liberty?
Now's the time to right
the things done wrong.
Being back on the path to righteousness
will make us strong.
America claims to be free,
. . .let it be!
It's not to late
to set things straight
In the good ol' US of A,
we'll NEVER say,
"We've lost freedom's way."
They were rebels
with just cause,
all those who fought against segregation laws,
those who had a dream with Rosa Parks and Rev. Martin Luther King!
All they wanted was equality.
They led the march for civil rights!
They were shining liberty lights,
making freedom and liberty reality,
for all people of all colors, because we're brothers.
Yet, now drug laws oppress the poor.
We are the Land-of-the-free no more.
If those same people were here today,
our friend, Martin would quietly display
the Bible and the Constitution, above his head, one in each hand.
When he had our attention, he'd scream,
"Hold fast to the dream!"
so loud you could hear it all over this land!
. . .because
We've been tearing the truths to pieces.
You know, those self-evident ones.
There is little or no justice
where corruption and racism thrive.
We're over taxed and regulated
until we can barely survive.
We're on the road to perdition,
with more and more people in prison.
How can we be the land of liberty?
Now's the time to right
the things done wrong.
Being back on the path to righteousness
will make us strong.
America claims to be free,
. . .let it be!
It's not to late
to set things straight
In the good ol' US of A,
we'll NEVER say,
"We've lost freedom's way."
They
were rebels with just cause, those hippies from the sixties
They found joy in peace, love and brotherhood.
They believed in, "feelin' good,
feelin' fine, feelin' easy all the time"
They used the herb socially, medicinally,
religiously. . .
some even dared to say,
"It brought them closer to God."
Others said with obvious cheer.
They were, " just feeling groovy."
then - flash, they understood,
when you feel The Holy Spirit you feel good.
They were valiant
They were adamant
about America being free.
We called them hippies, our unsung heroes
they served as watchdogs of our liberty.
Those hip from days gone by
would not tell a lie,
same as those who still prefer weed to beer,
they tell it like it is, "Man, we're way off course here!"
. . .because
We've been tearing the truths to pieces.
You know, those self-evident ones.
There is little or no justice
where corruption and racism thrive.
We're over taxed and regulated
until we can barely survive.
We're on the road to perdition
with more and more people in prison.
How can we be the land of the free?
They
are rebels with just cause,
our brave heroes, our watchdogs of liberty.
All today's activists and advocates,
all self-governors, all patriots
who spread the freedom philosophy.
-who know complex decisions
about personal morality,
or personal mortality
are better left to the individual,
the one and only - me,
or the parties involved,
the people - we!
And there's nothing we can't fix
with the intrepid Spirit of 1776.
Now's
the time to right
the things done wrong.
Being back on the path to righteousness
will make us strong.
America claims to be free,
. .let it be!
It's not to late
to set things straight
In the good ol' US of A,
we'll NEVER say,
"We've lost freedom's way."
